Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Central Europe— a centre of culture for one of only three countries in Europe whose national language is not Indo- European; though the people do speak good English, certainly if they work for the tourist industry. It is not surprising, therefore, that since the fall of the Iron Curtain twenty years ago, there has been a flood of tourists from the United States, Western Europe, and other parts of the world; and in consequence, hotels have expanded in the city, many of them within the affordable range of the average citizen. Following is a series of brief descriptions of four cheap Budapest hotels from HostelBookers, together with the tourist attractions that are situated within walking distance of them. Additional information can be found on anytrip.com, where you can get directions and reserve a room, telling when and for how long you wish to stay.

Unio Hotel
Unio is in the middle of the city, and has been given high ratings (86 - 94%) for all criteria: atmosphere, location, facilities, staff, cleanliness, safety, and value. The Parliament, State Opera House (one of the most beautiful in the world), Music Academy, and City Park— where Hero’s Square, with its Millennium Monument, is located— are all nearby. Customers have praised the specious rooms, delicious breakfast, and reasonable prices.

Carmen Hotel Panzio
This hotel is also close to the centre of Budapest, in a quiet area replete with trees, within walking distance of the same landmarks, including Hero's Square; and there is a spa and a transportation network nearby. The building is a warm medium yellow, two- story house. Its ratings are somewhat lower than those of the Unio, but the quiet street is one of the reasons customers have given for liking this hotel.

King's Hotel
King's is again centrally located, but this building is much fancier than the Carmen— an impressive white building of at least four stories, with curiously shaped windows and a balcony on each one. The interior is no less imposing— an interesting mix, I should say, of grandeur and plainness. Ratings are even lower still than those for the other two, but people find the rooms comfortable and the employees friendly.

Hotel Papillion
Hotel Papillion (that’s French for "butterfly," by the way) has a rather plain exterior, with square windows and red and white sections. But it does have an attractive garden where you can eat, which is a big plus. Ten minutes away is Buda Castle, completed in the mid- thirteenth century.

As you can see, there is plenty to see and experience in Budapest, and the city has its selection of cheap, good- quality hotels that you can stay in. So if you get a chance, take a trip to the "Little Paris of Central Europe," the "Pearl of the Danube," and make your next summer a memorable one.
