Though Budapest cannot be compared as a shopping centre with London or Paris, it nevertheless, offers many articles of relatively good quality at a reasonable price.

The most important shopping area in Budapest is Váci street and its side streets, Kígyó street, Petőfi Sándor street, Kossuth Lajos street and Rákóczi street.

Shops are usually open here from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What to buy? The best things to buy are embroideries, porcelain, records, books and of course, paprika. Hungarian salami, goose liver paté, Apricot brandy (Barackpálinka), Tokay wine, Herend porcelain, Unicum are other good buys.

The most typical buy in Hungary is a handmade piece of embroidery: a peasant blouse, a a table cloth or a doll Hungarian costume. They sell peasant embroidery in downtown stores, in the Castle Hill shops and beautiful ones in Szentendre as well.

If you would like to have your shop listed here please contact us.

Almárium
This wonderful shop near the entrance to the tunnel under Castle Hill sells antique and country Hungarian folk art of every shape and size: mangle boards, woodcarvings, chests etc. But don’t expect any bargains. An early 19th-century tulipán láda (trousseau chest with tulips painted on it) from Transylvania will cost you as much as 150,000Ft.
